“. . . . My challenge has been to make this history, which has been described in words but remains unpictured, somehow tangible, and to visualize the landscape in a way that resonates in our moment.”-- Dawoud Bey
Discussions of inequity have a history and a place--how can we bring story and place together with data and storytelling?
This is a popular theme I will be revisiting in my role as SciPy 2022 Diversity Chair Committee member and throughout the first quarter keynotes (to LIVE audiences finally-yay).

Here is the book I needed. If you are like me, perhaps you don’t need to learn a complete computer language but you have a problem to solve.
This book is the practical without too much of the technical. Enough of the technical for you to build your knowledge when you are ready to expand your practice but not a bunch of details to slow you down. Geospatial analytics and python fit nicely--especially in an open-source environment. Click the link and follow along with the raw and unedited early release chapters. I may have frustrated the editors when I resisted defining an specific audience. If you think about it, you can be an advanced data science person or an advanced geospatial or GIS professional that has never programmed in python. And you might be a python person that has never explored geospatial data analysis. I think we have something for everyone. |
